Impermanent Landscape

Kathleen Finlay

ARTIST - IN - RESIDENCE
DATES: JUNE 16 - 29 2024

I travel - Zooming in and out on this world; from past to present, trying to imagine the future. I zoom in on the forest - it enfolds everything. Zooming in and out on the moss and lichen. It's taken 15 years to grow the size of a nickel. I zoom out high above this world into transformed landscapes.

One day they'll return to their original state. Mostly, I stay present because this time is now. Precious and impermanent.

PAST EXHIBITIONS

FARAH AL AMIN

DATES: MAY 17 - MAY 30 2024

Fascinated by the perpetual process of becoming, this series of photographs captures the entanglement of life with death through an exploration of the symbolic and aesthetic qualities of decaying and decomposing matter.

By freezing the decay of organic objects in time, the photographs strive to preserve the ephemeral moment when one life form blossoms while another fades; the moment when one life form displaces another, and when the familiar and the ordinary are taken over by the strange and otherworldly.

Amelia Valentine

DATES: APRIL 25 – MAY 8 2024

“Accidental has always been an element of my work. Only half the work was intentional, the other half left to chemical reactions between inks, resin, and paints in my work.”

CEK

DATES: MARCH 21 - APRIL 5 2024

“A canvas for his fascination with spatial abstraction and explosions.”

An Italian ex-pat and graduate from the University of Udine, Giorgio moved to Toronto in 2011 to pursue a career in Architecture. Inspired by the geometrical achievements of the Minimalism movement, Giorgio’s earlier concrete work combines product design and sculpture.

Lately, his research has been directed towards exploring a new medium, the pen plotter, which Giorgio uses to draw geometrical plotted line compositions where the same principles are applied in a continuum with his design practice.

Jonathan Dunklman

DATES: NOV 20 2023 - JAN 24 2024

Each work in SURFACES embodies a distinct minimalist concept, masterfully projected by the artist onto two-dimensional, nearly monochromatic surfaces. Their simplicity, purity, and beauty invite us to experience the moment with a gentle insistence to go slowly, breathe deeply, and be fully present.

Anthony Fieldman

DATES: APRIL 29 2023 - JULY 1st 2023

“The reason I photograph kids is because I find that anywhere I go there are a number of adults who are just too self-conscious... Kids are largely free of the self imposed constraints that most of us carry as adults.”

Fieldman has spent time in over 70 countries and lived on three continents. This open-minded wanderer’s spirit has inspired a wealth of beautifully composed and thoughtfully curated black-and-white images.

Aline Setton

DATES: NOV 24 2022 - JAN 12 2023

An aging brick house drifts through time but not space, graffiti tattooing its garage door, weeds growing up its steps, and faces a titanium-grade home of futuristic charm across the street. How do these two architectural timelines exist on the same street, in the same space, in the same image?

Artist Aline Setton lives for such urban juxtapositions, exploring the meaning of their rebounding vibrations and visual reverberations in her art. Brazilian artist Aline Setton’s new solo exhibition “Visual Reverb” investigates the intersections between intersections themselves.

Mark Raynes Roberts

DATES: MARCH 22 2022

“Nature has a reliable sanity. She has consistent rituals. The sun comes up and it sets. In the spring, flowers bloom. In the winter, the landscape sleeps under a cover of snow. No matter what happens, the grass will grow, blossoms will always bloom, leaves will always change colour, snow will always fall, tides will rise and fall. When there’s uncertainty in the world at large, nature is our one, dependable friend.”
